Special Communiqué on the Passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee have issued a special communiqué announcing with profound sorrow that Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng passed away at 1:38 pm on July 19, 2024, at the Central Military Hospital 108, Hanoi.
The Communist Party’s Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee have decided to hold the funeral of the late Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng with national mourning etiquette.
Funeral Arrangements:
- Lying in State: The late Party General Secretary will be laid in state at the National Funeral Hall, No.5 Trần Thánh Tông Street, Hanoi. The respect-paying ceremony will commence at 7 am on July 25, followed by the memorial service at 1 pm on July 26.
- Burial Ceremony: The burial ceremony is scheduled to take place at 3 pm on July 26 at Mai Dịch Cemetery, Hanoi.
- Simultaneous Ceremonies: Respect-paying and memorial ceremonies will also be held simultaneously at the Thống Nhất Hall in Ho Chi Minh City and in his hometown in Đông Hội Commune, Đông Anh District, Hanoi.
Broadcasting:
Vietnam Television and Radio the Voice of Vietnam will broadcast the ceremonies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City live.
National Mourning:
During the two-day national mourning period on July 25 and 26, national flags will be flown at half-mast at State offices and public places. Recreational and entertainment activities will be suspended.

A list of 35 members of the board for the funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng has been announced, including:
- Tô Lâm, Member of the Politburo, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, head of the funeral board.
- Phạm Minh Chính, Member of the Politburo, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
- Trần Thanh Mẫn, Member of the Politburo, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
- Lương Cường, Member of the Politburo, Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Secretariat.
- Đỗ Văn Chiến, Member of the Politburo, President of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee.
- Lê Minh Hưng, Member of the Politburo, PCC’s Secretary and Chief of Office.
- Trần Cẩm Tú, Member of the Politburo, PCC’s Secretary and Head of PCC’s Inspection Commission.
- Phan Đình Trạc, Member of the Politburo, PCC’s Secretary and Chairman of PCC’s Commission for Internal Affairs.
- Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, Member of the Politburo, PCC’s Secretary and Head of PCC’s Commission for Information and Education.
