Sultan Qaboos University Ranks Third in 2025 Arab University Rankings

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has achieved a major academic milestone by securing third place in the 2025 Arab Ranking for Universities, reaffirming its standing as one of the region’s leading institutions of higher education.
The regional ranking is organized by the Association of Arab Universities (AArU), based in Amman, Jordan, in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils. AArU operates as an affiliate of the Arab League.
The ranking is distinguished by its objective and transparent evaluation methodology, relying on automated data processing and classification without human intervention. This mechanism provides credible indicators of the academic, research, and scientific performance of participating universities. Institutions are assessed across four core pillars: quality of education and learning, scientific research productivity, creativity and innovation, and international and local cooperation combined with community service.
The 2025 edition marks the third cycle of the Arab university ranking and represents Sultan Qaboos University’s first participation. Despite its debut, SQU secured third place among 236 Arab universities that met the rigorous classification criteria, representing 20 Arab countries.
The achievement highlights the university’s rapid integration into regional excellence frameworks and underscores its strong competitive position within the Arab academic landscape. It also reflects SQU’s sustained efforts to enhance educational quality, research output, and innovation.
Consolidating its status as a leading educational and research institution, the ranking adds a new dimension to Sultan Qaboos University’s academic journey. It underscores the university’s commitment to its strategic vision of academic excellence and its role in supporting a knowledge-based economy.
The accomplishment is closely aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in strengthening the national research and innovation ecosystem and expanding regional and international partnerships aimed at developing highly qualified graduates and researchers.
