Supreme Leader Encourages Iranians to Vote in Runoff Presidential Election
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei expressed his hope that the Iranian people would actively participate in the runoff presidential election and elect the best candidate. His remarks came after casting his ballot on Friday.
“Thanks God that this is a good day,” Ayatollah Khamenei noted, emphasizing the significance of the election day as a moment of active political engagement by “our dear people.”
He also mentioned hearing that the eagerness of the people to vote had increased compared to previous elections, which he found pleasing. “May God help the nation be successful and the country be developed,” he added.
The initial round of the election took place on June 28 across Iran with four candidates in the fray. Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili emerged as the leading candidates, but neither secured the majority of votes required to win the presidency outright. Consequently, a runoff election was scheduled for a week later.
Ayatollah Khamenei’s call for robust voter participation underscores the importance of this election for the future of Iran.
