Swearing-In Ceremony of President Ilham Aliyev Held at the Milli Majlis

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Today, on February 14, the Republic of Azerbaijan witnessed a momentous event as the swearing-in ceremony of President Ilham Aliyev took place at the prestigious Milli Majlis.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, distinguished state and government officials, as well as Members of Parliament. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and pride as the participants warmly welcomed President Ilham Aliyev to the event.

President Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev, who secured his position through a nationwide vote, officially commenced his term as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The solemn ceremony unfolded with the accompaniment of a ceremonial march, as soldiers from the Armed Forces reverently presented the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the standard (flag) of the President onto the stage.

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Farhad Abdullayev, along with the judges of the Constitutional Court, were invited to the stage to mark this historic occasion. Addressing the gathering, Chairman Farhad Abdullayev expressed profound thoughts on the significance of the event, underlining the constitutional processes that led to President Ilham Aliyev’s inauguration.

“Today, we witness the official commencement of President Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev’s term as the leader of the Republic of Azerbaijan. His election by the citizens of our great nation reflects the trust and confidence placed in his leadership. May this inauguration mark the beginning of a new chapter for Azerbaijan, filled with progress, prosperity, and unity,” stated Chairman Farhad Abdullayev.

The swearing-in ceremony signifies the continuation of President Ilham Aliyev’s commitment to serving the people of Azerbaijan and advancing the nation’s interests on the global stage. As you know, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with its decision dated February 13, 2024, confirmed the results of the Central Election Commission regarding the snap presidential election in the Republic of Azerbaijan, declaring Mr. Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Under the Article 103 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President-elect of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev is invited for swearing-in ceremony in the presence of the judges of the Constitutional Court.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev put his hand on the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and took the oath:

  • I do swear to abide by the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan while executing the powers of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, protect state independence and territorial integrity, and serve the people with dignity.

The President then put his hand on the Holy Quran and swore:

  • I put my hand on the Holy Quran and swear: I will remain loyal to and respect national and moral values and traditions that have been created by the people of Azerbaijan for centuries.

President Ilham Aliyev dropped to one knee and kissed the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
