Syrian Interim Government Appoints Asaad Hassan al Shaibani as New Foreign Minister
Damascus, The Gulf Observer: The Syrian Interim Government has appointed Asaad Hassan al Shaibani as its new foreign minister, according to a statement from the ruling General Command.
Al Shaibani, who previously served as the head of Political Affairs for the civilian administration in Idlib province, played a pivotal role in managing relations with foreign governments and institutions, as well as overseeing coordination with UN agencies and international aid organizations.
Born in 1987 in Hasakah, al Shaibani moved to Damascus with his family, where he graduated from Damascus University in 2009 with a degree in English Language and Literature. He became actively involved in the Syrian uprising in 2011, joining the grassroots movement that called for freedom and challenged the regime’s authority.
The appointment follows the recent collapse of the Baath Party regime after Syrian National Army forces, in coordination with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) fighters, captured key cities in a rapid offensive that led to the fall of Damascus on December 8, 2024. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who had ruled the country for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia as anti-regime forces took control, effectively ending the Assad regime.
