Syria’s New Foreign Minister to Make Historic Visit to Türkiye

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Syria’s newly appointed Foreign Minister, Asaad al Shaibani, announced on Tuesday that he will embark on his first official visit to Türkiye, a nation that has provided refuge to millions of Syrians during the country’s prolonged civil war.
“To represent the new Syria, tomorrow we will make our first official visit to the Republic of Türkiye,” Shaibani stated on the social media platform X. He praised Türkiye’s unwavering support for Syrians over the past 14 years, noting, “Türkiye has never left the Syrian people behind.”
This visit marks a significant milestone in relations between the two countries following the ouster of long-time regime leader Bashar al Assad in December and the establishment of a new administration led by Ahmed al Sharaa.
Shaibani, who holds a master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, is seen as a symbol of the renewed ties between Syria and Türkiye. His appointment signals a shift in Syria’s diplomatic approach, emphasizing reconciliation and collaboration with regional allies.
Türkiye has been a critical ally to the Syrian people, hosting more than 3 million refugees who fled Assad’s brutal regime after the civil war erupted in 2011. Ankara has pledged to assist Syria’s reconstruction efforts, urging international cooperation to rebuild the war-torn nation and stabilize the region.
The Foreign Minister’s visit to Ankara is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, addressing the humanitarian crisis, and coordinating strategies for Syria’s recovery. Turkish officials have reiterated their commitment to supporting post-Assad Syria and fostering regional stability.
Shaibani’s trip underscores the evolving dynamics in the region, as Syria transitions into a new era of governance and seeks to reestablish itself on the international stage.
