Tajik Foreign Minister, IWMI Regional Director Discuss Enhanced Cooperation on Water Management

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirojiddin Muhriddin,held a meeting this week with Johan Jelley, Regional Director for Research in Asia at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), according to media reports. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in water resource management, climate-related initiatives, and the implementation of regional projects.

During the talks, both sides exchanged views on expanding cooperation with the IWMI, particularly in areas related to sustainable water use, climate resilience, and regional development programmes. The minister highlighted the importance of bolstering partnerships to address common challenges in water security and environmental sustainability.

Muhriddin also briefed Jelley on preparations for the 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028.” The major international event is scheduled to be held in May 2026 in Dushanbe.

He invited the IWMI to participate in and contribute to the preparation and organization of the conference, emphasizing the significance of global cooperation in advancing sustainable water resource management.

The meeting underscored Tajikistan’s continued commitment to leading international dialogue on water issues and promoting collaborative solutions to environmental and climate-related challenges.
