Tajikistan

Dubai, The Gulf Observer: Tajikistan and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) have signed a financial agreement worth US$100 million to support construction and infrastructure works at the Rogun hydropower plant, the Ministry of Finance has announced, according to media reports.

The agreement was signed in Dubai by Tajikistan’s Finance Minister Fayziddin Kahhorzoda and ADFD Director General Muhammad Saif Al Suwaidi.

According to the ministry, the funding will be allocated to Lot 2 of the Rogun hydropower plant project, a strategic national initiative aimed at strengthening Tajikistan’s energy security and significantly expanding its electricity generation capacity.

The Rogun project is considered a cornerstone of the country’s long-term development strategy, with the potential to meet domestic power demand and support electricity exports to neighbouring countries.

Earlier reports also noted that Kyrgyzstan is planning to construct a series of small hydropower plants, having signed a memorandum of understanding valued at US$300 million, underscoring the growing regional focus on hydropower development.
