Tajikistan Signs U.N. Convention Against Cybercrime, Strengthens Global Cooperation Efforts

New York, The Gulf Observer: Tajikistan has signed the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime during an official ceremony held at the United Nations Headquarters, the country’s Foreign Ministry announced, according to Khovar.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Tajikistan by its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jonibek Hikmat, marking the country’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation in combating cybercrime and enhancing the exchange of electronic evidence related to serious crimes.
The convention, formally titled “The U.N. Convention against Cybercrime; Strengthening International Cooperation to Combat Certain Crimes Committed through Information and Communications Systems and in the Exchange of Electronic Evidence Relating to Serious Crimes,” aims to provide a comprehensive legal framework to address the growing challenges posed by cyber-related offenses.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the convention remains open for signature at the U.N. Headquarters until December 31, 2026, allowing more countries to join the global initiative.
To date, a total of 75 countries have signed the agreement, reflecting increasing international consensus on the need for coordinated efforts to tackle cybercrime and improve cross-border legal cooperation.
Tajikistan’s accession to the convention underscores its commitment to enhancing cybersecurity, strengthening legal mechanisms, and contributing to global efforts to counter emerging digital threats.
