Tehran to Host 39th International Islamic Unity Conference with Global Participation

Tehran

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: The Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Hamid Shahriari, announced that the 39th International Islamic Unity Conference will convene in Tehran from September 8 to 10, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Unity Week.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Shahriari said the conference will bring together 80 prominent scholars, 210 guests, and around 2,800 activists from across the Muslim world under the theme, “The Prophet of Mercy and the Islamic Ummah.” He added that the event will be attended both in person and virtually by intellectuals and religious figures from various countries.

Highlighting the forum’s recent appointment of a Sunni deputy, Shahriari described the step as a practical move toward enhancing Shia-Sunni unity. He stressed that fostering solidarity among Islamic sects has become a diplomatic necessity, in line with the strategic vision of Iran’s leadership.

Outlining the three dimensions of unity—domestic, regional, and international—he noted that Iran’s internal cohesion serves as a model for the wider Muslim world. As an example, he referred to the broad solidarity demonstrated during the 12-day Israeli war against Iran, when thousands of statements and Friday sermons by Sunni clerics underscored a shared commitment to unity. A compilation of these sermons is expected to be published soon.

Dismissing allegations of division, Shahriari said rare incidents are often amplified by hostile media outlets in an attempt to undermine Muslim solidarity.
