Thailand Aims to Join Global Top 10 in Scientific Research by 2029

Scientific Research

Bangkok, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) has set an ambitious goal for Thailand to rank among the top 10 countries globally in scientific analysis and applied research by 2029.

Rungrueng Kitphati, Director-General of the Department of Science Services (DSS), announced the initiative, spearheaded by Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi, as part of efforts to position Thailand as a hub for high-tech industries.

Enhancing Research Standards

To achieve this goal, the DSS is conducting a comprehensive review of the nation’s research laboratories. A DSS representative has been sent to study the accreditation criteria in the Russian Federation, which are widely recognised by international bodies such as the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation, the International Accreditation Forum, and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation.

“The insights gained from this study will be implemented to elevate Thai research facilities to globally recognised standards,” Dr. Rungrueng said.

Global Collaboration

The DSS plans to collaborate with international organisations to evaluate and certify Thai laboratories, ensuring compliance with global standards. This recognition is expected to boost Thailand’s credibility in scientific research and foster international partnerships.

Vision for 2029

The ministry’s strategy aims to leverage advanced scientific analysis and applied research to drive innovation and improve citizens’ quality of life. “By 2029, Thailand could be among the top 10 countries in the world for scientific analysis and applied science,” Dr. Rungrueng stated.

This initiative reflects Thailand’s commitment to advancing its research capabilities, fostering technological growth, and positioning itself as a leader in the global scientific community.
