Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: A solemn ceremony was held in Hanoi on Sunday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Public Security Forces (August 19, 1945 – 2025) and the 20th anniversary of the All-People Security Safeguard Festival (August 19, 2005). The event was attended by Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, along with Party and State leaders.

In his address, the General Secretary highlighted the 80-year journey of the forces, which has demonstrated their mettle, intellect, and remarkable development under the Party’s absolute leadership, the State’s unified management, and the people’s support and trust.

Amidst complex regional and global challenges, he stressed that safeguarding the Fatherland early and from afar, defending national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as protecting the Party, the State, the people, and the socialist system, are heavy but honourable responsibilities entrusted to the People’s Public Security Forces.

The General Secretary urged continued efforts to build the forces into a “revolutionary, standardised, elite, and modern” contingent, strong in political will, ideology, organisation, and ethics. He emphasised the need for professionalism, technological competence, discipline, and a spirit of sacrifice and service to the people.

He also underlined the principle that “the people are the root,” calling on every officer and soldier to always put the interests of the nation and the people above all else. He further outlined tasks related to Party building, ideological education, strict discipline, and combating corruption, wastefulness, and other negative practices within the forces.

The Party chief directed the Public Security Forces to intensify the fight against organised, transnational, hi-tech, corruption, and economic crimes, while ensuring public order and safety to foster a secure environment for citizens to live, work, study, and innovate. He insisted that all operations must strictly comply with the law, uphold objectivity and impartiality, and observe the principle of “no forbidden zones, no exceptions.”

He also called for accelerating digital transformation, optimising big data systems, safeguarding national digital sovereignty, and strengthening capacity to prevent and combat cybercrime. Greater international cooperation in security and justice was also urged, particularly in non-traditional security areas.

The General Secretary stressed the importance of enhancing the “All people protect national security” movement with innovative and diverse approaches, while improving the welfare and working conditions of officers and soldiers, especially in remote, border, and island areas.

Describing the People’s Public Security Forces as both the “shield” and the “sword” of the regime and the people, he underscored that their strength lies in strict discipline, pure ethics, the people’s trust, and the Party’s guidance, while modern science, technology, and a commitment to justice will sharpen their operational effectiveness.

On behalf of the Party and State, General Secretary Tô Lâm presented the People’s Public Security Forces with the Gold Star Order for the fifth time, recognising their outstanding achievements. He also conferred a banner from the Party leadership to the forces.
