Tô Lâm Meets President Trump at White House

Washington DC, The Gulf Observer: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việtnam Central Committee, Tô Lâm, met with United States President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday morning during his visit to Washington, D.C., to attend the inaugural meeting of the Gaza Board of Peace.

The meeting was held in an open and cordial atmosphere, with both leaders discussing a broad range of bilateral cooperation issues, as well as regional and international matters of mutual interest.

General Secretary Lâm congratulated the United States and President Trump on the successful organisation of the inaugural meeting of the Gaza Board of Peace. He noted that Việtnam was among the first countries to commit to participation in the initiative and affirmed that Hànội stands ready to coordinate closely with the United States and other Board members to implement the peace plan effectively.

Reaffirming Việtnam’s consistent policy, General Secretary Lâm stressed that his country attaches great importance to and seeks to further strengthen the Việtnam–US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a stable, substantive, and effective manner. Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive progress achieved in political–diplomatic engagement, economic and trade cooperation, war legacy remediation, science and technology, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges.

Highlighting economic and trade cooperation as a key pillar of bilateral ties, the Vietnamese leader underscored the need for candid and substantive dialogue to address outstanding issues. He emphasised the importance of ensuring balanced and harmonised interests in line with each side’s legitimate conditions and priorities, for the benefit of businesses and citizens of both countries. He also proposed enhancing high-level contacts and delegation exchanges.

President Trump congratulated General Secretary Tô Lâm on his re-election as General Secretary of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Việtnam and expressed his pleasure in welcoming him to the White House. The US President conveyed his affection for the Vietnamese people and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting a “strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous” Việtnam.

The President welcomed and thanked Việtnam for its decision to participate in the Gaza Board of Peace, noting that the General Secretary’s attendance at the inaugural meeting reflected Việt Nam’s growing international role and its strong commitment to global peace, stability, and cooperation.

President Trump also commended Việtnam’s efforts to promote balanced bilateral trade and welcomed the signing of several valuable contracts during the visit. He responded positively to Việtnam’s proposals for expanded cooperation in economic and scientific–technological sectors and stated that he would direct relevant US agencies to move forward with removing Việtnam from the strategic export control list (D1–D3).

Reaffirming that the United States considers Việtnam an important partner in the region, President Trump praised the country’s increasingly prominent role and voice at regional and multilateral forums.

On the occasion, General Secretary Lâm extended an invitation to President Trump and his spouse to visit Việtnam at an early date. President Trump accepted the invitation and said he would arrange a visit in the near future.
