Tragic Road Accident Claims 21 Lives in South Afghanistan

Kabul, The Gulf Observer: Tragedy struck in south Afghanistan as at least 21 commuters lost their lives and 11 others sustained injuries in a devastating road accident, as confirmed by Mawlawi Mohammad Qasim Riaz, spokesman for the provincial government, based on media reports.

The fatal incident occurred on Sunday morning along a road in Gereshk district when a passenger bus en route to Herat collided with both a tanker and a motorbike. The collision caused the bus to overturn and erupt into flames, resulting in the immediate loss of 21 lives, with several others sustaining injuries, the official disclosed. The primary cause of the accident is suspected to be reckless driving, though investigations are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the collision.

According to the state-run Bakhtar news agency, the toll stands at 21 fatalities and 38 injuries, underscoring the severity of the incident and its impact on the local community.

The General Directorate of Traffic Police of Afghanistan revealed staggering statistics, reporting that over the past 10 months, more than 1,600 individuals have lost their lives and over 4,000 have been injured in road accidents across the country.
