Trump Nominates Charles Kushner as U.S. Ambassador to France
Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: President-elect Donald Trump announced on Saturday that Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, will serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to France.
“I am pleased to nominate Charles Kushner, of New Jersey, to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to France. He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker who will be a strong advocate representing our Country and its interests,” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social. “Together, we will strengthen America’s partnership with France, our oldest Ally, and one of our greatest,” he added.
Kushner, founder of the real estate firm Kushner Companies and a former attorney, has also served on the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council and the Board of Trustees for New York University, where Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, is currently enrolled.
The announcement comes amid a backdrop of continued support from French President Emmanuel Macron, who congratulated Trump on his victory. “Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump,” Macron posted on X. “Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”
Macron also praised Trump’s ability to advocate for American interests. “He was elected by the American people, and he will defend the interests of the Americans. This is legitimate and a good thing,” Macron remarked in a video earlier this month.
Kushner’s nomination has sparked debate, given his prior legal controversies. In 2004, he pleaded guilty to tax evasion, lying to the Federal Election Commission, and retaliating against a federal witness, serving two years in prison. Trump issued Kushner a full pardon in the final month of his first term.
If confirmed, Kushner will oversee U.S.-France relations at a time of renewed emphasis on strengthening the historical alliance between the two nations.
