Trump Threatens 100% Tariffs on Canadian Imports Over Proposed China Trade Deal

Washington, The Gulf Observer: U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened to impose immediate 100 percent tariffs on all Canadian imports if Ottawa proceeds with a proposed trade agreement with China, warning that such a move could seriously undermine longstanding economic ties between the two neighboring countries.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, President Trump cautioned Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney against finalizing the deal, warning of severe consequences. He accused Canada of risking becoming a “back door” for the entry of Chinese goods into the U.S. market.
The warning follows reports of a preliminary agreement between Canada and China aimed at reducing mutual tariffs, including lower duties on Chinese electric vehicles in exchange for eased access for Canadian agricultural exports to the Chinese market.
Washington has viewed the proposed arrangement as weakening the existing alliance between the United States and Canada, particularly at a time of rising political tensions and as Ottawa seeks to diversify its trade partnerships ahead of the resumption of North American free trade talks.
The latest remarks mark a sharp escalation in trade rhetoric and have raised concerns about potential disruptions to the deeply integrated U.S.–Canada economic relationship, which spans manufacturing, agriculture, and energy sectors.
