Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister to Attend OIC–Arab League Gaza Contact Group Meeting in Madrid

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz is set to participate in an upcoming meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation–Arab League (OIC–AL) Gaza Contact Group, which will convene in Madrid on Sunday, according to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

The meeting, which is expected to be held in an expanded format, will bring together member states of the Gaza Contact Group, alongside representatives from countries that have recently recognised the State of Palestine—namely Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia.

In addition to the host country Spain, the session will include high-level participants from OIC–AL Gaza Contact Group nations, including Türkiye, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Nigeria. Officials from the European Union, the Arab League, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are also slated to attend.

The gathering follows a previous meeting held in Madrid on September 13, 2024, which was attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and similarly aimed at building momentum toward the recognition of Palestine and the revival of the Middle East peace process.

The Gaza Contact Group is playing a pivotal role in advancing a two-state solution to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, particularly in the European context. The group is committed to mobilising international support for the recognition of the State of Palestine, facilitating the resumption of peace negotiations, and promoting a lasting resolution based on international law.

Notably, the group was instrumental in the adoption of the Global Alliance initiative during the 2024 United Nations General Assembly, which reinforced the international commitment to the implementation of a two-state solution.

Sunday’s meeting in Madrid is expected to further consolidate international efforts toward peace in the region and underline the collective resolve of participating states to support Palestinian self-determination and stability in the Middle East.
