Turkish First Lady Applauds Bangladesh's New Interim Leader

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish First Lady Emine Erdoğan has expressed her commendation for Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus after he was sworn in as the head of Bangladesh’s caretaker government, following a period of significant political turmoil in the country.

In a statement released on Thursday via X, formerly known as Twitter, First Lady Erdoğan conveyed her best wishes to Yunus as he embarks on his new role. “I would like to extend my best wishes to the Honourable Prof. Muhammad Yunus, a member of the United Nations Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, which I have the honour of chairing, as he embarks on his new role as the Head of the Interim Government of Bangladesh,” she stated.

Muhammad Yunus assumed leadership of the interim government after a student uprising led to the resignation and departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India. The oath of office was administered by Bangladesh’s figurehead President Mohammed Shahabuddin during a ceremony at the presidential palace in Dhaka. The event was attended by foreign diplomats, civil society members, top business leaders, and members of the former opposition party.

First Lady Erdoğan expressed her confidence in Yunus’s ability to contribute significantly to the enhancement of democracy, peace, and stability in Bangladesh. She also extended her good wishes to the people of Bangladesh, saying, “I wish the friendly and brotherly people of Bangladesh prosperity and well-being.”

The appointment of Muhammad Yunus as the head of the caretaker government is seen as a pivotal moment for Bangladesh as the nation navigates through a challenging political landscape.
