Turkish Spymaster Ibrahim Kalin Visits Erbil, Discusses Regional Developments

Erbil, The Gulf Observer: Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) head Ibrahim Kalin paid a visit to Erbil, marking his second trip to Iraq since assuming the position last year. The visit follows his recent meetings in the capital, Baghdad, showcasing Türkiye’s commitment to regional engagements.
During his stay in Erbil, Kalin engaged in discussions with key figures, including KDP Chair Masoud Barzani, KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Interior Minister Reber Ahmed, and Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC) head Hasan Turan, along with ITC Kirkuk Deputy Ersat Salihi.
The meetings addressed various topics, including regional developments, bilateral relations, and the ongoing efforts against PKK terrorism. Kalin underscored Türkiye’s unwavering determination in the fight against terrorism.
Kalin’s earlier visit to Baghdad involved meetings with Iraqi President Abdullatif Rashid, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiya al Sudani, and representatives from Shia and Sunni groups, as well as Turkmen representatives.
The discussions emphasized the multifaceted engagement between Türkiye and Iraq, focusing on mutual interests, security cooperation, and the joint commitment to combat terrorism. The fight against the PKK, a designated terrorist organization responsible for numerous casualties in Türkiye over more than three decades, remained a prominent topic during these meetings.
Türkiye continues to play an active role in regional affairs, fostering dialogue and cooperation with its neighbors to address shared challenges and promote stability in the broader Middle East.
