Türkiye Clinches Third Consecutive European Amputee Football Championship
Evian-les-Bains, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye has triumphed in the European Amputee Football Championship for the third consecutive time, securing a 3-0 victory over Spain. The final took place on Saturday in Evian-les-Bains, located in the Haute-Savoie region of France.
Rahmi Ozcan broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, followed by Omer Guleryuz, who doubled the lead in the 28th minute. Fatih Senturk sealed the win with a goal in the 33rd minute, ensuring Türkiye’s dominance in the championship.
Türkiye’s amputee football team has a remarkable track record. They first emerged as a top contender by securing third place in the 2007 World Cup held in Antalya. The team continued to demonstrate their prowess, finishing third in the 2010, 2012, and 2014 World Cups.
In 2018, Türkiye reached the championship final for the first time at the Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico but narrowly missed the title, losing to Angola on penalties. However, they exacted revenge in the 2022 World Cup final, defeating Angola 4-1 in Istanbul to claim their first World Cup title.
Adding to their accolades, the Turkish amputee football team now celebrates their third successive European Championship victory, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in the sport.
