Türkiye Stresses Peace and Stability in Iraq During Meeting with KRG President

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday emphasized that peace and security in neighboring Iraq are inseparable from Türkiye’s own, during a meeting with Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, focused on Türkiye-Iraq relations, cooperation with the KRG, and broader regional developments, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal.
President Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region, stressing the importance of Iraq avoiding any cycle of violence. He noted that Ankara is closely monitoring the measures taken by the KRG in this regard.
Erdogan also expressed hope that the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections next month would be beneficial for all Iraqi citizens.
Welcoming the agreement reached between Iraq’s central government and the KRG on oil-related issues, Erdogan underscored that achieving consensus on the Development Road project in the near future would serve the interests of the entire region.
In addition, he reaffirmed Türkiye’s determination to ensure the success of its “Terror-Free Türkiye” process and stressed the importance Ankara places on the KRG’s continued support for Syria’s territorial integrity and unity.
President Erdogan was accompanied by Türkiye’s intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and his chief advisor on foreign policy and security, Akif Cagatay Kilic.
