Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Vows Islamic World’s Protection of Al-Aqsa Mosque
Cairo, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan declared that the Islamic world will take all necessary steps to safeguard the Islamic identity of the revered Al-Aqsa Mosque, also known as Haram al-Sharif, one of Islam’s holiest sites. His remarks came during his address at the 162nd meeting of the Arab League’s Council of Foreign Ministers on Tuesday.
“The Muslim world will do whatever it takes to preserve the Islamic identity of Haram al-Sharif with the same spirit,” Fidan affirmed, stressing the collective resolve of Muslim nations to protect the site, which has witnessed several recent incursions by far-right Israeli figures. He emphasized that Türkiye and its allies would continue their coordinated efforts to pressure the international community to reject Israel’s provocations at the sacred site.
Fidan also strongly criticized Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, particularly in Gaza, and issued a stern warning to those supporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Those who support Netanyahu’s policies are complicit in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza,” he stated, adding that such actors “will also be held accountable.”
The foreign minister’s comments followed a call by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, urging the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene at the leadership level “without further delay” to address Israel’s continued attacks on Jerusalem and defend the city against further aggression.
Both Fidan and Erdogan’s statements reflect Türkiye’s firm stance on the Palestinian cause and its commitment to defending the rights of Muslims in the region. Their appeals signal a broader effort to rally the international Islamic community in response to escalating tensions surrounding Al-Aqsa Mosque and Israeli-Palestinian relations.
