Türkiye’s Tourism Income Surges to $54.3 Billion in 2023, Reports TurkStat

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) disclosed that Türkiye’s tourism income reached $54.3 billion in 2023, marking a substantial 16.9% year-on-year increase. The total number of visitors, inclusive of Turkish citizens residing abroad, stood at 57 million, reflecting an 11.1% rise compared to the previous year.

In 2023, the majority of tourists, accounting for 67.6%, visited Türkiye primarily for “travel, entertainment, sportive, and cultural activities.” Meanwhile, 67.4% of Turkish citizens residing abroad visited the country to reconnect with relatives and friends.

During the final quarter of the year, tourism revenue witnessed a 6.8% surge, reaching $12.27 billion, with the number of visitors totaling 12.4 million, an increase of 4.1% compared to the same quarter in 2022.

Throughout 2023, the number of Turkish citizens traveling to foreign countries recorded a significant uptick of 52.3%, reaching 11.06 million, while the average expenditure per capita was $639.
