Turkmen National Leader Concludes U.S. Visit, Advances Business and Sports Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, has concluded a working visit to the United States aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in business, sports and investment.
Upon arrival in the United States, Berdimuhamedov was warmly received at an international airport before beginning a series of high-level meetings with representatives of American business and political circles.
Meetings with U.S. Business Leaders
During the visit, Berdimuhamedov met with John Reese, President of Nicklaus Companies, to review the current status and future prospects of cooperation. The discussions focused on the development of golf infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan, including planned courses in Arkadag City and the National Tourist Zone “Avaza.”
Reese praised Turkmenistan’s dynamic development and expressed strong interest in expanding collaboration. Berdimuhamedov highlighted the strategic importance Turkmenistan places on sports, tourism and recreation as components of sustainable development.
The National Leader also held talks with Eric Stewart, Executive Director of the Turkmenistan–U.S. Business Council, who reaffirmed American business circles’ interest in expanding mutually beneficial investment dialogue with Turkmenistan.
Over the years, major U.S. companies including Boeing, General Electric, John Deere, CASE and Nicklaus Companies have implemented significant projects in Turkmenistan, reflecting the growing economic partnership between the two countries.
Focus on Agriculture and Investment
Berdimuhamedov also met with Csaba Lejkó, CEO and President for CIS and Central Asia at John Deere Walldorf International GmbH, where both sides confirmed readiness to expand cooperation in the agricultural sector, a key component of Turkmenistan–U.S. relations.
The discussions underscored Turkmenistan’s commitment to strengthening investment cooperation and diversifying economic partnerships.
Visits to Sports and Equestrian Facilities
As part of the program, Berdimuhamedov visited the Panther National Golf Club and the Sandhill Crane Golf Club training center, where he reviewed modern golf course construction practices and sports infrastructure development.
A visit was also made to the La Victoria equestrian complex, where the National Leader examined horse training facilities and management practices, reflecting Turkmenistan’s deep cultural heritage in horse breeding, particularly of the renowned Akhal-Teke breed.
High-Level Engagements
The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty also met with prominent U.S. business figures, including Steve Wynn, Isaac Perlmutter and William Koch, Chairman of Oxbow Group, who expressed readiness to expand cooperation with Turkmenistan.
Concluding the visit, Berdimuhamedov described the meetings as constructive and forward-looking, emphasizing that they marked the beginning of new initiatives to further strengthen long-term Turkmen–U.S. partnership.
Working Visit to Germany
Following his departure from the United States, Berdimuhamedov arrived in Germany, where he chaired a working meeting related to preparations for 2026, declared the Year of “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of the Goal-Oriented Winged Horses.”
Discussions focused on ensuring high-level organization of international events, including participation in the FEI World Championship 2026 in Aachen and an Akhal-Teke beauty contest scheduled in the Netherlands.
After concluding his engagements, Berdimuhamedov returned to Ashgabat, where his aircraft landed at the capital’s International Airport, marking the completion of his overseas visit.
