Turkmen President Grants Amnesty to 225 Prisoners Ahead of Independence Day

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has signed a decree granting amnesty to 225 convicted individuals in honor of the country’s 34th Independence Day anniversary.
The decision was announced during a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Thursday, continuing Turkmenistan’s longstanding tradition of pardoning individuals who have sincerely repented for their offenses, according to state media.
The report on the preparation of the amnesty was presented by Secretary of the State Security Council and Chairman of the Commission on Citizenship and Pardons, Begench Gundogdyev.
President Berdimuhamedov instructed law enforcement authorities to ensure the timely release of those pardoned and to facilitate their safe return to their families. Extending his good wishes, the head of state urged the pardoned individuals to live honest and productive lives, serve their homeland with sincerity, and contribute to national development.
The Cabinet meeting also reviewed and adopted decisions on a number of other state matters.
