Turkmenistan and China Discuss Expansion of Strategic Partnership and Innovation Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: On September 22, 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov held a meeting with Xu Qingshan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government.
The discussions focused on the current state and future prospects of the Turkmen-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership. Both sides underlined that regular high-level contacts contribute to the consistent strengthening of bilateral relations.
Particular attention was given to enhancing regional cooperation. In this context, the parties recalled that the city of Arkadag was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by Hangzhou Dianzi University on March 13, 2025, in recognition of its achievements as an outstanding green and environmentally friendly community.
The talks also highlighted opportunities to expand cultural and humanitarian exchanges, alongside prospects for collaboration in innovation, artificial intelligence, and high technology. Special emphasis was placed on smart city projects and innovative urban infrastructure solutions.
Scientific and educational cooperation featured prominently in the discussions. The Turkmen side proposed fostering closer ties between Hangzhou Dianzi University and leading universities in Turkmenistan.
The importance of sports exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations was also noted during the meeting.
Both parties reaffirmed their readiness to further deepen cooperation across a broad spectrum of areas, thereby contributing to the advancement of the Turkmen-Chinese strategic partnership.
