Turkmenistan and EU Discuss Energy, Transport, and Trade Cooperation in Ashgabat

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with European Commissioner for International Cooperation Jozef Síkela in Ashgabat on Wednesday to discuss bilateral cooperation in energy, environmental sustainability, and transport infrastructure, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of the Central Asia–European Union initiative, recognizing its role in strengthening ties across multiple sectors. Discussions also focused on Turkmenistan’s active efforts to develop major transport corridors, particularly the North-South and East-West routes, which serve as key links for regional connectivity.
President Berdimuhamedov highlighted the strategic significance of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashy, stressing its ability to shorten transit routes and reduce transportation times for large-scale cargo shipments. He noted that the port facilitates trade access to the Black Sea region, Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, and the Asia-Pacific, positioning Turkmenistan as a vital hub in Eurasian trade networks.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding their mutually beneficial partnership, underscoring the potential for further cooperation in transport, trade, and sustainable development.
