Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan Explore Caspian Sea Export Route for Kyrgyz Goods
Bishkek, The Gulf Observer: Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Mammetkhan Chakyev, and Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Torobayev, engaged in a virtual meeting to discuss enhancing trade through the use of Turkmen ports on the Caspian Sea for the export of Kyrgyz products. This development was confirmed by the press service of the Kyrgyz government.
The discussions highlighted cooperation in areas such as energy, transport, infrastructure, agriculture, and trade. Both parties emphasized the strategic potential of boosting cargo flow through the Caspian Sea, which they agreed could significantly benefit both regional and international logistics networks.
The meeting explored the feasibility of establishing a multimodal cargo transport route connecting Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Russia, as well as an alternative route via Azerbaijan’s Port of Alat to access European markets. The proposed routes are expected to enhance economic cooperation, improve trade capacity, and expand export pathways from Central Asia to Europe.
Additionally, Kyrgyz officials proposed simplified tariffs for transportation and port services at the international port of Turkmenbashi, aimed at encouraging Kyrgyz carriers to leverage this vital Caspian gateway. The Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers noted that such tariff adjustments could facilitate more efficient and cost-effective logistics for goods destined for international markets.
This collaboration marks a step towards fostering deeper economic ties between Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan while establishing a critical corridor for the region’s trade expansion.
