Ashgabat

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The 13th meeting of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat, underscoring the continued commitment of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation to deepening their long-standing strategic partnership. The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, who also held talks with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his visit.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation across key sectors and exploring new avenues for joint projects. A major highlight of the visit was the Russian delegation’s study of the urban development concept of Turkmenistan’s first “smart” city — Arkadag. Russian specialists praised the city’s comprehensive planning, modern infrastructure, and the extensive integration of digital and innovative technologies in its development.

The delegation also took part in a rich cultural program that showcased Turkmenistan’s heritage and modern achievements. Mr. Khusnullin visited the Aba Annayev International Horse Breeding Academy, where he commended Turkmenistan’s dedication to preserving the traditions of Ahal-Teke horse breeding. The visitors also attended a performance by the renowned “Galkynysh” National Equestrian Games Group at the State Equestrian Circus, which left a strong impression.

In addition, the Russian delegation toured various museums and exhibitions, including a fashion show held within the framework of the exhibition “Healthcare, Education and Sports in the Epoch of the Revival of a New Era of a Powerful State.”

The meeting concluded with the signing of a comprehensive package of documents aimed at broadening and institutionalizing bilateral cooperation. These included an Agreement on a Simplified Customs Corridor, an Action Plan for Cooperation in Education — providing for academic exchanges and joint research initiatives — as well as an Agreement on Cooperation in Exchange Activities and several memoranda on collaboration in horse breeding.

The agreements signed during the 13th session lay a firm foundation for the implementation of new joint projects and reaffirm the strategic, multifaceted nature of Turkmenistan-Russia relations. Both sides expressed confidence that the outcomes of the meeting would contribute to further strengthening their partnership across economic, cultural, and humanitarian domains.
