Turkmenistan and Somalia Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on December 13, 2025.

Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the ceremonial events and the International Forum marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

At the outset of the meeting, the Somali foreign minister conveyed congratulations to the Turkmen side on the International Day of Neutrality and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality.

The meeting noted the significant potential for cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. In this context, the sides emphasized that intergovernmental and interagency contacts contribute to strengthening bilateral relations in the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The parties expressed support for enhancing cooperation between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Somalia and underscored the importance of expanding the bilateral legal and contractual framework.

The ministers also discussed cooperation within international organizations, particularly the United Nations, and highlighted the similarity of Turkmenistan’s and Somalia’s approaches to issues of global peace and sustainable development.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed confidence that the current visit by Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali would further contribute to strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between Turkmenistan and Somalia.
