Turkmenistan Celebrates 34th Independence Anniversary with Women’s Entrepreneurship Conference

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: A conference titled “Hünärim bar – hormatym bar” (“With My Skill Comes My Honor”) was held at the Central Building of Public Organizations of Turkmenistan to mark the 34th anniversary of the country’s Independence. The event highlighted the vital role of women in the development of the private sector and the national economy, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
Participants underscored the achievements of the Business Women’s Center, which provides support to hardworking and talented women, helping them establish careers and expand their own businesses. Speakers emphasized the importance of mentorship and the transfer of knowledge across generations as a key factor in fostering sustainable growth.
As part of the conference, an exhibition showcased a wide range of products from the private sector. Visitors had the opportunity to view handmade carpets crafted from pure wool and silk, modern carpet designs, traditional flat-woven rugs and kilims, as well as artisanal souvenirs and jewelry created by skilled women. The exhibition also presented potential export opportunities for these products, reinforcing the international prospects of Turkmenistan’s women-led enterprises.
The event was organized by the Central Council of the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the Business Women’s Center under the Union.
Founded in March 2008, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan is a public, non-commercial organization that unites representatives of the private sector. According to the 2024 annual report of the Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan, the Union had 29,824 members, including 5,726 women, highlighting the growing participation of women in the country’s economic development.
