Turkmenistan, China express desire to expand cooperation in energy sector

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: A high-ranking delegation of Turkmenistan met with the Chinese Vice Premier, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Ding Xuexiang, in Beijing on Monday. Xinhua News reports that the two sides expressed a desire to expand cooperation in the energy sector.

Among the participants from Turkmenistan were Ashirguly Begliev, Advisor to the President of Turkmenistan on oil and gas affairs, Deputy Prime Minister Hojamyrat Geldimiradov and Maksat Babaev, Chairman of the State Concern Turkmengas.

The Chinese Vice Premier emphasised China’s willingness to cooperate with Turkmenistan to implement the critical agreement the heads of state reached fully, strengthen energy cooperation and further develop bilateral relations, the State Council of the People’s Republic of China stated in a press release.

The Turkmen delegation remarked on the success of the gas trade partnership between Turkmenistan and China and expressed willingness to expand bilateral energy trade relations further and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakyev held meetings with representatives of Chinese companies Shaanxi Heavy Duty Automobile Import & Export Co., and Yutong Bus Co., Ltd.

The official delegation of Turkmenistan is visiting the People’s Republic of China, where it will attend the third forum of international cooperation, “One Belt, One Road”, to be held in Beijing on October 17-18, 2023.
