Turkmenistan Commits to Environmental Sustainability in Oil and Gas Development
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s energy policy is centered on advancing the oil and gas industry and integrating it into the global energy system, according to the state news agency TDH. The national strategy emphasizes the efficient use of the industry’s potential, strengthening its position in the international market, and implementing new infrastructure projects.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of adopting modern technologies and enhancing production capacities in the oil and gas sector. He also instructed efforts to attract foreign companies for developing energy resources in the Caspian Sea and to continue geological exploration.
Turkmenistan aims to expand its cooperation with leading oil and gas companies and financial institutions. A particular focus is on the introduction of innovative technologies and digital systems in the domestic fuel and energy complex.
The country is actively developing its gas processing industry, creating highly efficient production facilities for deep processing of gas raw materials. Efforts are also underway to modernize oil fields and increase oil recovery rates.
Environmental considerations are a key aspect of Turkmenistan’s energy policy. The nation is working to minimize environmental risks associated with energy resource extraction and to implement protective technologies. Turkmenistan has joined the Global Methane Commitment and is actively collaborating on climate change solutions.
Renewable energy projects, including a hybrid solar-wind power plant, are in progress. Turkmenistan aims to achieve zero growth in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and to significantly reduce emissions in the long term.
International cooperation in the energy sector is fostered through forums, conferences, and exhibitions, where topics such as investment attraction, the implementation of environmentally friendly technologies, and the development of “green” energy are discussed.
Turkmenistan is committed to the rational use of natural resources, environmental protection, and the implementation of international initiatives on energy security issues.
