Turkmenistan key partner for Belt and Road project: Wang Yi

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday in Beijing, China. During the meeting, Wang Yi emphasised the importance of Turkmenistan as a critical partner of China in the Belt and Road project, CGTN reports.

Wang Yi expressed China’s willingness to make joint efforts to expand multi-vector mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan.

Rashid Meredov confirmed that the leaders of both countries attach great importance to mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. The Deputy Prime Minister said that Turkmenistan actively supports and participates in the Belt and Road Project, adding that the Turkmen side hopes to strengthen the link between the “Revival of the Great Silk Road” strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Meanwhile, in Beijing, the Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakyev, held meetings with representatives of Chinese companies Shaanxi Heavy Duty Automobile Import & Export Co., Ltd and “Yutong Bus Co., Ltd.”, which are manufacturers of motor vehicles.

During these meetings, the two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in the supply of automotive equipment.

In addition, a high-ranking delegation of Turkmenistan met with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang in Beijing on Monday. China and Turkmenistan intended to develop an energy trade partnership during the meeting.

The official delegation of Turkmenistan is visiting the People’s Republic of China, where it will attend the third forum of international cooperation, “One Belt, One Road”, to be held in Beijing on October 17-18, 2023.
