Turkmenistan Outlines Priorities for 80th UN General Assembly Session

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the country’s priorities and principles for the upcoming 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, emphasizing peace and security, sustainable development, environmental protection, humanitarian cooperation, international law, and closer engagement with the UN.
In its statement, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its policy of permanent neutrality, non-interference, and peaceful conflict resolution, highlighting the interconnected nature of political, economic, energy, food, and environmental security. Among its initiatives, Turkmenistan plans to:
- Host the International Forum of Peace and Trust in Ashgabat in December 2025, marking the 30th anniversary of its neutrality.
- Propose a UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035) and expand the Ashgabat Process on Transport.
- Advance initiatives on energy connectivity, digital integration, and climate cooperation, including a Regional Center to Combat Desertification and conventions on the Amu Darya and Syr Darya basins.
- Promote humanitarian projects, including a Regional Youth Peacebuilding Platform in Ashgabat and an International Day of Multilingual Diplomacy.
- Submit draft resolutions on International Mediation Day and Cultural Heritage of the Silk Road.
- Campaign for future roles within UN bodies, including a non-permanent UN Security Council seat (2031–2032).
The statement underscores Turkmenistan’s belief in the UN’s central role and its readiness to work with all member states to strengthen multilateralism, peace, and sustainable development.
