Turkmenistan proposes establishment of trade and economic zones on Turkmen-Iranian Border

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan has proposed the establishment of trade and economic zones along specific sections of the Turkmen-Iranian border. The proposal was made during the 17th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

During the meeting, it was stated that Turkmenistan and Iran are implementing mutually beneficial ties in various areas, including political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian aspects.

Representatives from Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran continued their discussions on advancing bilateral relations in various areas, including trade and the economic sector, transport and logistics, oil and gas, industry, agriculture, water management, investment and standardisation. The meeting also involved an analysis of the implementation of decisions made during the previous Intergovernmental Commission meeting.

Turkmenistan has proposed improving the transport and transit corridor operation along the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran route. In this context, it was emphasised that Turkmenistan has successfully implemented this project, resulting in the route’s high efficiency.

The meeting outcomes included the signing of the Framework Agreement between the State Electricity Corporation Türkmenenergo, Tanawir and Sanergy Pishro Export and Energy Promotion company on the establishment of financing of the Turkmen part of the Mary (Turkmenistan) – Mashhad (Iran) power transmission line, Memorandum of Cooperation between the State Agency for Road Construction Management and the Ministry of Road and Urban Construction of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the construction of the Gumdag-Etrek-Iran border road and the Protocol of the 17th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation.
