UAE and Ethiopia Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Sign Landmark Wind Energy Project
Addis Ababa, The Gulf Observer: Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), met with Taye Atsekelasie, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. The meeting focused on enhancing the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and exploring avenues for cooperation in various sectors.
During the discussions, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, to Minister Taye Atsekelasie. He also expressed his best wishes for Ethiopia’s continued development and prosperity.
In response, Minister Taye Atsekelasie extended his greetings to His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and conveyed his hopes for the continued progress and success of the UAE government and its people.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan highlighted the strong and evolving relationship between the UAE and Ethiopia, emphasizing the numerous opportunities for further collaboration that would benefit both nations.
As part of his visit, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan, along with Ethiopian Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide, attended the signing ceremony of the Aysha-1 wind project agreement. This significant initiative, in partnership with the Emirati company AMEA Power, represents a milestone in renewable energy development in the Horn of Africa. The Aysha-1 wind project, valued at USD 620 million, is set to become the largest wind energy project in the region. The agreement was signed by Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, on behalf of the Emirati side.
The project underscores the UAE’s commitment to supporting sustainable development in Africa and strengthens the strategic partnership between the two countries.
