UAE and Maldives Launch Executive Leadership Programme
Malé, The Gulf Observer: The governments of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Republic of Maldives have officially launched the Maldives Executive Leadership Programme, a significant initiative under the strategic partnership between the two nations aimed at advancing government modernisation.
The launch event was attended by Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Vice President of the Maldives, and Ahmed Ali Habeeb, Principal Secretary to the President on Cabinet Affairs. Representing the UAE, the delegation included Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, and Rahma bin Abdulrahman Alshamsi, UAE Ambassador to the Maldives, along with other ministers and officials from both countries.
In his remarks, Vice President Latheef underscored the Maldives’ commitment to enhancing institutional capacity and organisational performance through collaborative initiatives. “Through cooperation initiatives, our government is committed to building institutional capacity and enhancing the organisational performance of various entities in the country,” said Latheef. “I am confident that this programme will serve as a roadmap for the Maldives to achieve its development goals by leveraging the UAE government’s expertise and experience in modernising government work and administration.”
Abdulla Nasser Lootah highlighted the importance of the Executive Leadership Programme as a key milestone in the strategic partnership, which was established in 2022. “This initiative is part of a series of collaborative projects aimed at enhancing government operations in the Maldives by leveraging successful practices from the UAE government,” said Lootah.
The Maldives Executive Leadership Programme encompasses five capacity-building courses: Policy Development, Strategic Leadership, Digital Global Trends, Resilient Government, and Government Innovation. These courses will provide a comprehensive 2,280 hours of training for Maldivian government officials, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to drive effective governance.
The programme is the latest development in the ongoing strategic partnership between the UAE and the Maldives, which was launched in March 2022. This partnership, focused on government modernisation and development, covers 11 key areas and has already resulted in 33 workshops, totaling 7,000 training hours and benefiting 323 Maldivian government officials.
The Maldives Executive Leadership Programme is expected to play a pivotal role in the continued modernisation of the Maldivian government, fostering stronger institutional capabilities and driving forward the nation’s development agenda.
