UAE and Russia Strengthen Cooperation in Civil Defence and Security

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), held a high-level meeting in Abu Dhabi with Lt. General Kurenkov Alexander Vyacheslavovich, Minister of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies, and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in police and security matters between the two nations.

During the talks, both sides discussed several key issues of mutual interest, particularly in the areas of civil defence, disaster prevention, and civil protection. The meeting culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UAE Ministry of Interior and the Russian Federation’s Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergencies, and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters. This agreement aims to deepen collaboration in areas of civil defence and enhance cooperation in mitigating the consequences of natural disasters and other emergencies.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both the UAE and Russia, including Mohammed Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Ambassador to Russia; Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; Lt. General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police; Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Hamdan Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Commander of the National Guard; and Major General Jassim Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defence.

During their visit, the Russian delegation was introduced to the UAE Ministry of Interior’s best practices in police and security operations, with a particular emphasis on disaster prevention and civil protection. The delegation was also shown the latest technologies employed by the Ministry to ensure the safety and security of the community. Highlights of their tour included visits to the Ministry’s central operations room, the Civil Defence Academy, the Safe City project, and several other departments.

This meeting underscores the commitment of both the UAE and Russia to enhancing security cooperation and sharing expertise in civil defence and disaster management, further solidifying the strategic partnership between the two countries.
