UAE Athletes Shine at WGP#1 Waterjet World Series in Belgium

Belgium

Brussels, The Gulf Observer: Emirati athletes continue to showcase their prowess on the global stage, with rising star Ali Al Ali securing two silver medals for the United Arab Emirates in the second round of the prestigious WGP#1 Waterjet World Series 2025, held at the scenic Lakes of Eau d’Heure in Belgium.

Competing in the Junior 4-Stroke and Junior 2-Stroke categories, Al Ali delivered a stellar performance against a highly competitive international field, earning him a double podium finish. His achievement has propelled him to second place in the overall world standings, significantly enhancing his chances of clinching the championship title in the final round scheduled for December 17 in Pattaya, Thailand.

Veteran UAE rider Mohammed Mohsen also added to the nation’s medal tally, winning a bronze medal in the fiercely contested Veterans Runabout Limited category, where he faced off against elite racers from around the world.

The Belgian round of the WGP#1 Waterjet World Series featured over 200 competitors representing 33 countries, further cementing the event’s reputation as one of the sport’s most prestigious and internationally diverse competitions. The series is officially sanctioned by the International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) and consists of three primary rounds held in Japan, Belgium, and Thailand.

Not all news was celebratory, however. Emirati contender Ahmed Al Tayyer was forced to withdraw due to technical difficulties, while Saif Al Shuweihi exited the competition following a crash during one of the heats.

Despite the setbacks, the UAE delegation’s overall performance reinforces the country’s growing stature in international water sports and sets the stage for a strong showing in the final round later this year.
