UAE Marks Professional Day for Nuclear and Radiation Sector Workers

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Today, the United Arab Emirates commemorated the Professional Day of Nuclear and Radiation Sector Workers, a day approved by the UAE Cabinet in January 2023. The occasion signifies the anniversary of February 16, 2020, when the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) issued the license to operate Unit 1 of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

The Professional Day serves as a platform to highlight the success stories, achievements, and unwavering efforts of workers in both the nuclear and radiation sectors in the UAE. It aims to celebrate and recognize their significant contributions to the development of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme, positioning the UAE as a role model among global nuclear newcomers.

The commemorative ceremony witnessed the presence of dignitaries, key senior officials, and professionals from government, the private sector, and academia, all of whom played pivotal roles in advancing the nuclear and radiation sector in the UAE. Distinguished professionals from various sectors, including health, industry, security, emergency preparedness, customs, were acknowledged for their remarkable achievements in the nuclear and radiation sector, aligning with the UAE’s visionary goals.

In a momentous development during the ceremony, FANR officially launched the Emirates Nuclear & Radiation Academy (ENRA), a digital platform offering comprehensive training and development programs. ENRA aims to disseminate scientific and technical knowledge within the nuclear and radiation sector, addressing workforce needs and contributing to the UAE’s knowledge-based economy. The launch of the academy on this significant day represents a crucial milestone in the ongoing development of the workforce dedicated to the nuclear and radiation sector in the UAE.
