UAE Parliamentary Group Participates in 37th Session of Forum of Women Parliamentarians at IPU Assembly

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: The UAE Parliamentary Group, representing the United Arab Emirates at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), actively engaged in the 37th session of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians. Held on the sidelines of the 148th IPU Assembly and the 213th session of the Governing Council in Geneva, Switzerland, the forum convened to deliberate on critical issues concerning women’s empowerment, peace, and security on a global scale.

Central to the discussions was the draft resolution presented by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security, focusing on “Addressing the social and humanitarian impact of autonomous weapon systems and artificial intelligence.” Additionally, deliberations encompassed matters pertaining to women’s roles in peacebuilding and security efforts worldwide.

The UAE Parliamentary Group, comprising distinguished members of the Federal National Council (FNC), actively contributed to the proceedings. Emphasizing the importance of supporting women’s peacebuilding endeavors, Dr. Moza Al Shehhi delivered a poignant speech during the forum. Dr. Al Shehhi underscored the pivotal role of parliamentarians in advocating for women’s inclusion in decision-making processes related to peace and security.

Highlighting the UAE’s commitment to gender equality and peacebuilding, Dr. Al Shehhi referenced the visionary leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the Mother of the Nation. She elaborated on the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Women, Peace, and Security Initiative, launched in collaboration with the United Nations. This initiative aims to bolster international cooperation in advancing women’s participation in peacebuilding efforts, fostering gender awareness, and enhancing decision-makers’ capabilities to support women’s roles in peacebuilding activities.

The UAE’s active participation in the Forum of Women Parliamentarians reflects its steadfast commitment to promoting gender equality, fostering peace, and advancing women’s empowerment on both regional and global fronts.
