Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: A delegation from the United Arab Emirates, led by H.E. Mahash Saeed Al Hameli, UAE Ambassador to South Africa and the UAE Sous Sherpa, took part in the Third G20 Sherpa Meeting held in South Africa.

The high-level meeting convened representatives from G20 member states, invited countries, and international organisations to review the progress made across various Sherpa Working Groups under the South African presidency.

During the meeting, the UAE delegation underscored the nation’s active engagement in working groups focused on several critical priority areas, including anti-corruption, culture, education, development, women’s empowerment, artificial intelligence and the digital economy, employment, disaster risk reduction, climate action, and environmental sustainability.

Reaffirming its commitment to multilateral cooperation, the UAE expressed strong support for South Africa’s leadership of the G20 in 2025 and praised its efforts in fostering inclusive and effective global dialogue.

South Africa extended an invitation to the UAE to participate as a guest country in the G20 process and summit in 2025. This marks the UAE’s sixth participation in the G20 and its fourth consecutive invitation. The UAE has previously engaged in the G20 process hosted by Brazil (2024), India (2023), Indonesia (2022), Saudi Arabia (2020), and France (2011).

The G20, established in 1999, serves as the premier forum for international economic cooperation, uniting the world’s largest economies to collaboratively address global challenges and promote sustainable and inclusive growth.
