UAE Pledges $25,000 to Support Least Developed Countries and Small Island States
Geneva, The Gulf Observer: Ambassador Jamal Al Musharakh, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, has announced a generous pledge of US$25,000 to support the participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Human Rights Council. The pledge was made at the UN’s pledging event, aimed at strengthening the engagement of these countries through the Voluntary Technical Assistance Trust Fund.
Al Musharakh emphasized that the contribution is designed to ensure that all countries, regardless of their size or resources, have a voice in international and multilateral fora. He stressed that the UAE’s commitment is in line with its broader efforts to empower LDCs and SIDS, enabling them to access technical assistance and become more effective participants in global governance.
“The participation of the Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States in the Human Rights Council is an investment in creating a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous world for all,” said Al Musharakh.
The UAE’s pledge aligns with its longstanding role in providing humanitarian aid and fostering economic growth opportunities, particularly in addressing challenges such as climate change, poverty, and the promotion of peace and prosperity globally.
The Voluntary Technical Assistance Trust Fund, established in 2012, is funded through voluntary contributions from Member States. It provides crucial training programs for delegates from LDCs and SIDS, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge to actively participate in the Human Rights Council’s work.
