UAE to Host International Moon Day Conference in 2025
Luxembourg, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the International Moon Day Conference in Abu Dhabi in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s contributions to global space exploration. The announcement coincided with the UAE’s celebrations of its 53rd Eid Al Etihad and was made during its active participation in Space Week 2024 in Luxembourg.
Space Week, the world’s largest annual space-focused event, brings together international experts, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and space enthusiasts to discuss advancements, future prospects of space exploration, and the benefits space science brings to Earth.
The UAE delegation to the event was led by Dr. Salem bin Abdullah Al Wahshi, CEO of the Emirates Council for Work Relations Development. The formal announcement of Abu Dhabi’s hosting was made during a session chaired by Dr. Nasr Al-Sahhaf, Chair of the United Nations International Moon Day.
The UAE’s selection as host underscores its growing prominence in the global space community. In recent years, the nation has achieved remarkable milestones, including the Hope Probe mission to Mars and plans for lunar exploration, further solidifying its leadership in advancing space science and technology.
World Space Week was established by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 54/68 on December 6, 1999, to highlight the role of space science and technology in improving human conditions. The annual event has grown significantly, with over 5,000 events held in more than 80 countries in 2018 alone.
Each year, a theme is chosen by the World Space Week Association Board of Directors in collaboration with the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs, providing a unifying focus for global events. This theme amplifies the impact of the week and inspires diverse programs to educate the public, support space programs, and foster international cooperation.
Hosting the International Moon Day Conference in 2025 aligns with the UAE’s vision of advancing space exploration while fostering global partnerships to enhance scientific and technological progress for humanity.
