Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health signs MoU with US Institute for Health Improvement
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) and the Institute for Health Improvement (IHI), a global not-for-profit organisation based in Boston, USA, launched a strategic cooperative agreement to advance and execute programmes for continuous improvement of the quality of healthcare.
The cooperation seeks to set a solid framework and establish regulatory foundations to achieve unified quality healthcare outcomes in Abu Dhabi and globally.
The cooperation between both parties was reflected through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of DoH, and Dr. Kedar Mate, President and CEO of IHI. The MoU signing was witnessed by Hind Al Zaabi, Executive Director of Healthcare Facilities at DoH, and Nana Twum-Danso, MD, MPH, FACPM, Senior Vice President at IHI.
Both organisations will cooperate on research and studies relevant to improving the Abu Dhabi Healthcare Quality Index (Muashir) and the global quality of healthcare services. Through this collaboration, DoH seeks to elevate the field of primary care to meet the patients’ medical needs and achieve the highest level of care.
The MoU will focus on developing an integrated system that promotes innovation and boosts licensing, training, inspection and monitoring systems for healthcare providers to ensure the highest level of care across the emirate.
In an effort to boost national capabilities and provide healthcare professionals with learning opportunities, both entities will conduct regular workshops, conferences, and seminars following international standards and global best practices for both the public and private sectors in Abu Dhabi.
Commenting on the MoU, Al Zaabi said, “We are proud to join hands with the Institute for Health Improvement that continues to play an integral role in advancing healthcare quality globally. Since its establishment 30 years ago, IHI has followed a unique approach through working with health systems, countries and healthcare organisations to improve quality, safety and value in healthcare. Cross collaboration across the global healthcare sector is a key pillar as we reinforce Abu Dhabi’s positional as a global destination for world-class healthcare.”
Dr. Mate commented, “IHI is proud to be a partner in Abu Dhabi’s health care quality journey, and this MOU will be a pivotal next step to embed quality and safety across the health services. Together we will leverage the insights produced from the Muashir Index to create a comprehensive system of quality that will enable Abu Dhabi to reach world-class levels of quality, and to maintain those improvements over time.”
“We applaud the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi for its commitment to quality and to improving health outcomes for the people you serve,” he added.
