UN official praises environmental standards of FIFA World Cup Qatar stadiums
Sharm El Sheikh, The Gulf Observer: Secretary of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Abdallah Mokssit visited today Qatar’s pavilion at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27 in Egypt, and praised the State of Qatar’s efforts in preparation for hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.Mokssit highlighted Qatar’s commitment to the environment, which was reflected in the construction of World Cup stadiums at the highest environmental standards, expressing appreciation for the efforts made in that regard.
He said the Qatari participation in COP27 plays a part in enhancing the level of information provided to help in climate negotiations.
He added that COP27 must implement the Paris Accord and provide substantial facts on the process of development by states, saying that this could be done by making contributions to the use of clean energy and establishing programmes to lower Carbon emissions.
He expressed his thanks to the Qatari delegation participating in COP27 for their efforts.
