UNDOF Commander Awards UN Medals to Kazakh Peacekeepers Serving in Golan Heights

Astana, The Gulf Observer: The Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), Major General Anita Asmah, has presented United Nations medals to Kazakh military personnel in recognition of their service in peacekeeping operations, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced.
According to the ministry, Kazakhstan’s independent peacekeeping contingent is deployed at Camp Faouar on the Golan Heights in Syria, where they monitor compliance with the ceasefire regime as part of the UNDOF mission. All 139 members of the contingent were awarded UN medals for their dedicated service.
The Kazakh peacekeepers are tasked with ensuring the security and reinforcement of UN bases, engaging with local communities, and carrying out a broad range of operational duties aimed at maintaining stability within their assigned sector.
Company Commander Lieutenant Colonel Zhanibek Nurlanov emphasized that the contingent has demonstrated a high level of professional training, cohesion, and operational efficiency. “The UN medal is a recognition of the courage, discipline, and dedication of each serviceman, as well as their contribution to maintaining peace in the mission’s area of responsibility,” he stated.
Since April 2025, the contingent has conducted 55 operations, during which more than 1,200 explosive remnants of war and over 50 improvised explosive devices were destroyed. Overall, the second rotation of the Kazakh peacekeeping unit has completed 675 tasks since the beginning of its deployment.
Kazakhstan first deployed its independent peacekeeping contingent to the Golan Heights in March 2024, marking a significant step in the country’s expanding contribution to international peacekeeping efforts under the United Nations framework.
