Urgent Appeal for Blood Donations Issued in Oman

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Department of Blood Banks Services of Oman (DBBS) has issued a pressing appeal to the public, urging individuals to donate blood and platelets as the Central Blood Bank grapples with a significant decrease in donor turnout.
In a statement released by DBBS, it was revealed that the Central Blood Bank has experienced a notable decline in the number of donors since the onset of the holy month of Ramadan. Specifically, only 308 blood donors and 24 platelet donors were recorded on the first day of Ramadan.
As the demand for blood and platelets continues unabated, particularly during the sacred period of Ramadan, the Central Blood Bank faces a shortfall of donors. DBBS has underscored the critical need for more than 2,700 blood donors and 260 platelet donors throughout the holy month to adequately meet the needs of patients.
To address this urgent situation, DBBS implores individuals to proactively step forward and donate blood and platelets, emphasizing the vital role that each donation plays in saving lives and alleviating the suffering of patients in need.
The Central Blood Bank, located in Baushar, has extended its donation hours from Sunday to Thursday, offering donation slots from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm in the morning and from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm in the evening. To facilitate donations and ensure efficiency, individuals are encouraged to book their appointment via WhatsApp at 94555648.
In light of the escalating demand for blood and platelets during Ramadan, DBBS appeals to the compassion and generosity of the community, urging them to answer the call to donate and make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
