Bandar Seri Begawan, The Gulf Observer: Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) has reaffirmed its position as the nation’s premier technological university and a key driver in achieving Brunei Vision 2035, through innovation, academic excellence, and international recognition.

Speaking at the UTB-MIC Computing Degree Programmes and BriCOMP Certificate Presentation Ceremony, UTB Vice-Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman underscored the university’s growing global prominence. “UTB is now ranked among the top nine technology and engineering universities in ASEAN by the QS World University Rankings 2026,” she announced. The university also made its debut in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, placing in the 801–1000 global tier and among the top 23 universities in ASEAN.

“These milestones reflect our university’s unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and innovation,” she said, describing the achievements as pivotal in supporting Brunei’s ambition of cultivating a sustainable, global, and enterprising society rooted in the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy.

Highlighting the relevance of UTB’s academic offerings to global labour market trends, the Vice-Chancellor shared insights into the top 15 highest-paying jobs for 2025, where technology-related fields dominate. Roles such as AI/machine learning engineer, data scientist, blockchain developer, cybersecurity specialist, and cloud engineer all feature prominently.

“These are global trends—and our programmes are designed to prepare students to thrive in these demanding fields,” she said. “Whether it’s through our partnership with the Huawei Academy or the resources at our Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AiML) Hub, UTB is enabling the next generation of innovators to lead in AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and more.”

The School of Computing and Informatics has earned full accreditation from the British Computer Society (BCS) for all undergraduate programmes and partial dual accreditation for its Master of Science in Computing and Information Systems. “BCS is recognised in more than 200 countries, which means you can work anywhere with a UTB computing degree,” she said.

Meanwhile, the UTB School of Business continues to uphold its strong academic standards through its accreditation by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)—a credential that reflects teaching excellence, research impact, and global credibility in business education.

In addition to academic and technical training, UTB is also nurturing essential soft skills. “We offer modules on effective communication, entrepreneurship, and ethics,” said Dr Zohrah. “We believe that graduates must be not only technically capable, but also ethical, innovative, and globally aware.”

As UTB continues to expand its influence and capabilities, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s core mission: to develop talent that will lead Brunei and the wider world into a technology-driven, sustainable future. “This is more than just education—it is nation-building. And UTB is proud to be at the forefront.”
